The 5th International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioengineering combined with International Conference on Coastal Ecology and Marine Biotechnology (ICBB&ICCEMB 2016) was held successfully in Bangkok, Thailand

The 5th International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioengineering, combined with International Conference on Coastal Ecology and Marine Biotechnology (ICBB&ICCEMB 2016), organized by Asia-Pacific Association of Science, Engineering and Technology (APASET), Burapha University, Chinese Journal of Biologicals and Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, was successfully held at Mandarin Hotel Managed by Centre Point in Bangkok, Thailand from December 8 to 10, 2016.
 
There were 90 delegates from 25 countries that attended the conference, several experts in related fields were invited to give keynote and invited speeches. The in-depth discussions among the attendees effectively advanced the academic exchange. The conference set various forms which contained keynote address, oral presentation, poster, etc., including 27 keynote & oral presentations and 53 poster presentations. Biotechnology, bioengineering, marine natural productions, biomedicine and other related aspects were involved.
 
  
The opening ceremony was graced by Conference Honorary Chair, Assoc. Prof. Sunantha Osiri, Vice President for Research, Burapha University, who delivered warm welcome remarks to all the attendees. Prof. Dr. Se-Kwon Kim, Conference Program Chair & Director of Marine Bioprocess Research Center, Pukyong National University, praised the growth of ICBB and welcomed all delegates to the international event.
 
At the welcome session, Prof. Dr. Ichiro Maruyama from Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Japan made a keynote speech about “Activation of type-1 transmembrane receptors via a common mechanism? The ‘rotation model’”. Prof. Dr. Thomas T. Chen who came from Department of Molecular & Cell Biology, University of Connecticut, USA made a speech about “Production of Disease Resistant Fish by Transgenesis and its Application in Aquaculture”, and Prof. Dr. Se-Kwon Kim made a presentation about “Research and application of bioactive substances form marine resources”. Dr. Chutiwan Dechsakulwatana, representing the Burapha University and Dr. Tobias Haber, representing the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, as co-organizers, chaired the welcome session. 
 
  
 
Apart from the reports in the main convention hall, there were several poster sessions. In the keynote & oral sessions and the poster sessions, the speakers introduced their reports in detail, while the attendees carefully listened to their reports and actively exchanged their ideas with the speakers. After the closing session, a short summary speech was made by Dr. Chutiwan Dechsakulwatana, and the sites for the next 2017 ICBB and ICCEMB conferences were announced.
